In a step that reflects an ongoing humanitarian commitment to the most vulnerable groups, Nima Relief has successfully concluded the implementation and distribution of the fourth and final batch of the orphan sponsorship project in Khirbet Al-Joz, rural Idlib, covering the months of July, August, and September of 2026.
A Vital Response in a Crisis Hotspot The Khirbet Al-Joz area is considered one of the most prominent humanitarian crisis hotspots in northwest Syria. The region encompasses 52 severely overcrowded camps, sheltering approximately 45,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in precarious conditions. Amidst the collapse of infrastructure and dire economic circumstances, orphans and widows emerge as the groups most in need of immediate and sustainable support.
The Impact of Sponsorship and Its Social Dimensions The project aimed to provide direct support to 267 beneficiaries, comprising 133 males and 133 females within the children's category (0-17 years old). The intervention consisted of providing a monthly amount of $30 per orphan, which is the estimated minimum required to cover basic needs.
The impact of this project was not limited to merely fulfilling daily living requirements; it also achieved long-term strategic goals, most notably:
- Ensuring Educational Continuity: The financial support helped remove the economic barriers that prevent orphans from attending school, thereby reducing school dropout rates.
- Protection from Exploitation: The project served as a protective shield for the children, safeguarding them from engaging in child labor and other social risks.
- Empowering Caregivers: The project provided vital assistance to widows and elderly women who bear the heavy burden of raising children alone, enhancing their capacity to provide a stable caregiving environment.
As this project concludes with the delivery of its final installment, Nima Relief reaffirms its continuous efforts to build the resilience of vulnerable communities and invest in human capital, ensuring a safer and more dignified future for the children of Syria.
